At Scalpers, we work every day to improve our environmental policy and our commitment to the planet, with sustainability becoming an increasingly high priority for our company.

Our sustainable mission translates into a series of goals, objectives and actions that our brand is continuously carrying out in its daily work. This is a journey that involves implementing initiatives ranging across our products and collections, as well as new projects to work towards integrating sustainability in our stores and logistics centres.

To reduce our environmental impact, we have realised projects involving more sustainable designs, as well as changes in decision-making when it comes to materials and production processes, logistics and warehousing, and store management.

Under the umbrella of sustainability, we collaborate with a number of other organisations, suppliers and other companies in the sector. We understand that this networking is necessary and fundamental for the change we want to bring about to ensure that this becomes tangible and sustainable over time.

At Scalpers, all our teams work to implement and integrate sustainability into the different areas of our company to reduce our footprint on the planet. To this end, we work along different strategic lines to achieve our short- and medium-term objectives, which are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the 2030 agenda.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS AND PRODUCTION

At Scalpers, we believe that a HOPE product is one that incorporates sustainability attributes in one of the phases of its life cycle and in terms of at least one of the key aspects (economic, social, environmental). We are working to ensure that 60% of the products in our collections are HOPE.

In this guide, we point out what these attributes are, sorting them into 3 groups or characteristics: sustainable sources, recycled materials, and sustainable design and manufacturing.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCES

At Scalpers, we work together with our suppliers, right from designing the garment, so that our process of selecting materials for our garments is increasingly responsible. We select natural materials from more sustainable farms in order to reduce the impact on the environment and biodiversity.

We use cotton under the umbrella of the:

Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) or GOTS Certificate for organic cotton.

Sustainable natural materials: 100% natural fibres and materials or materials from programmes with a focus on sustainability.

Organic natural fibre, Merino or yak wool, Spanish or European linen or alpaca wool, or Lyocell.

RECYCLED MATERIALS

Our product is sustainable because it is composed of recycled and/or regenerated materials from by-products from the same or a different activity. The use of recycled materials transforms what was waste into a new resource, thus reducing the production of a new virgin material and reducing the consumption of water, energy and natural resources.

Zertifizierter Global Recycled Standard, Recover Yarn, Cupro, Recycled PET, Recycled Cotton und Recycled Polyester, Recycled Wool, Recycled Paper and Cardboard.

At Scalpers, we have discontinued the use of natural feather filling in all our garments in favour of recycled fibres.

SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING

A product may also be HOPE if it has been designed and manufactured using sustainable production processes or incorporates sustainable procedures. We are working to reduce the use of chemicals and water in the washing and dyeing process for some products, such as our jeans, which are made following a patented washing process; ECO-TECHNOLOGY which uses less chemicals, less water, less electricity and, therefore, generates less pollution.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Cert.

SUPPLIERS

At Scalpers, we work with suppliers and manufacturers who respect the environment and strive for sustainability in their strategic lines, to integrate this commitment throughout our supply chain and, thus, collaborate to fulfil the industry's commitment to the planet.

PACKAGING

We work on sustainability in terms of the packaging in which the garments arrive from their source, with labels and boxes wrapped in recycled cardboard. We have also undertaken to ensure that all the protective plastic bags for wrapping garments are made from 100% recycled plastic.

Our commitment to sustainability is also reflected in our online packaging project with the following initiatives:

Our “Eco receipt”: We are paperless.

STORES

For the construction and set-up of our stores, at Scalpers, we work with suppliers who are not only highly qualified but also highly aware of both sustainability and the impact that their production processes and materials have on the environment.

The wall coverings and finishes in our shops are sourced from suppliers who are members of Vinyl Plus, a commitment by the European PVC industry, resin and additive producers and plastics recyclers to develop more environmentally responsible ways of producing, using and recycling PVC.
In addition, the wall coverings are Cradle to Cradle (C2C) certified, which seeks to promote a concept of reuse, bringing its products back into the industry as technical resources that can be continuously recycled.

The panelling in our stores has certified thermal insulation according to the UNE-EN ISO 6946:2012 standard issued by Tecnalia.

In addition, it is made from water-based polyurethane, which is environmentally friendly and does not affect the ozone layer.
In line with these efforts, the carbon footprint over the past two years of our panelling suppliers has been measured and recognition has been obtained from MITERD for reducing the carbon footprint by 32%.

In terms of constructing the furniture and fittings, our suppliers work with recycled steel materials, organic polyurethane parts, powder paint without harmful materials, and wood of controlled and certified origin, amongst eco materials.

Furthermore, the furniture in our stores is equipped with PureAir technology (by Pureti), a type of photocatalytic energy that turns furniture into eco-active elements, as one square metre of surface treated with this technology eliminates the amount of NOx pollution (greenhouse gases), Sox (sulphur oxide) or VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that an adult tree would eliminate during a year.
All of the tiles used on the floors of our stores are made from 95% recycled material.
The environmentally friendly series of these tiles is made from the factory's own production waste; what’s more, no additional chemical treatment is applied after the tiles are fired, thus reducing the emission of volatile compounds.
With regard to lighting, our luminaires are EcoVadis certified, which is the world's largest platform for corporate sustainability ratings.

LOGISTICS CENTRES

In our new logistics centre, which is currently under construction, photovoltaic panels will be installed for self-consumption, reducing energy consumption and, as a result, our carbon footprint.

We work hand in hand with our transport providers to reduce the carbon footprint of our last mile deliveries by encouraging the use of electric vehicles.

In terms of consumables, we recycle all the cardboard we produce.

We have digitised all our processes in the logistics centre in order to go paperless for intralogistics.

NEW WAREHOUSE

To construct the new centre, we are reusing construction elements and materials, such as the structure, roof, façades, light fittings of the small warehouse (these have been reused and adapted to regulations), as well as using the pre-existing water tank for irrigation and correct management of waste.

HOPE COLLECTION

Hope is a sustainable capsule collection where environmental responsibility prevails: recycled and organic fabrics used in manufacturing processes that are committed to protecting the environment.

OUR MATERIALS

Recycled nylon: diverts waste from landfill and its production uses far fewer resources than virgin nylon (including water, energy and fossil fuels).

Organic cotton: grown on certified land free from toxic substances and all types of pesticides and insecticides.

Recycled cotton: this technique consists of converting cotton fabric into cotton fibres that can be reused in new textile products.

RPET: This is polyester obtained from recycled plastic bottles. It s also known as Coke bottle green cloth, a new type of fabric made from strands of recycled plastic. It has a lower carbon footprint, thus creating a new concept in the field of regeneration.

EcoVero or sustainable viscose: this is a man-made fibre of natural origin; in fact, it is derived from the wood pulp of trees and is biodegradable.

Recycled wool: diverts used wool garments from landfill, saves a considerable amount of water, reduces land use for sheep grazing and avoids the use of chemicals for dyeing processes.

Linen: this is a natural fibre derived from the flax plant. It uses far fewer resources than cotton or polyester.

Tencel: also called Lyocell, this is a fibre sourced from eucalyptus trees grown in PEFC-certified forests. Eucalyptus grows rapidly without the use of pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation and is 100% biodegradable.

Cupro: this is an artificial cellulose fibre made from flax cotton or cotton waste. It is 100% biodegradable.

ECO BAG

The scarcity of raw materials, together with the increase in social and environmental awareness in recent years, has led us as a company to develop even more environmentally conscious and responsible packaging. The ECO bag aims to reduce paper consumption in our stores through reuse of the ECO bag by our customers when they shop in our stores.

what is the eco bag?

The ECO BAG is a bag developed using 100% recycled materials in order to promote circularity and give textile waste a new life.
